Southpointe Academy

Middle Years Program (MYP)

The MYP is also homeroom-based with a homeroom teacher charged with the general care of each student.

The curriculum proceeds seamlessly from the FYP, but processes now change to suit the developmental stage of the students. Teaching is energetic and learning is very active; expectations are raised; gender differences in learning-style are known and accommodated; and the notion of ‘responsibility’ is more emphasized. The modern language learning becomes more formal and academic; all students from Grades 6 to 8 learn an instrument and attend band classes; a full-scale musical theatre performance is staged; Singapore Math continues. Formal examinations are introduced at the end of Grade 6 and all the MYP writes final examinations in June. The Athletics Department offers more opportunity for inter-school games, and the Global Education Program becomes available to students in Grade 8.

Alternative Program Weeks enable students to participate in a wide-ranging choice of activities including such things as photography, pilot ground school, astronomy and navigation, ceramics, life-saving, kayaking etc.
