Mathematics Teacher, MYP
Now in my 13th year of teaching and my 5th at Southpointe, I teach mathematics in the MYP and run the Junior Archimedes Club. I also run the Math Circles program at UBC, which is an enrichment program for Grade 5 to 10 students who are interested in mathematics and who aspire to develop their mathematical thinking to a very advanced level.
In my classes, high expectations are blended with guidance and encouragement. I believe that finding a correct answer is just as important as having fun in working on the problem. My role as a teacher is to create opportunities for all students to experience that mathematics makes sense and that they can make sense of mathematics. Mathematical activity can be enjoyable and fulfilling, and it helps develop habits of mind, such as the ability to reason well and persevere with difficult problems, which in turn will open many doors in life.
My hobbies are swimming, yoga, and photography. I hope to coach the Southpointe’s Elementary Swim Team this year.
